Check out "Food Matters"

"One quarter of what we eat keeps us alive ... three-quarters of what we eat keeps our doctors alive!"

  • Check out FOOD MATTERS!
  • Sarah McLachlan ... love this woman's voice!

Ever since childhood, I've had a soft spot in my heart for the impoverished nature lover, Francis ... so here's Sarah singing words to a prayer I knew by heart as a kid. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Feeling wonderful these days. Seems the more I simplify, the lighter I feel ... in all ways. Made three car runs to the local GoodWill shop in my town Saturday, dropping off many boxes of STUFF ... stuff I don't need, stuff I don't want, stuff I will never miss. And it's nice stuff too so people will be very blessed by it all. Yup ... decluttering is becoming my favorite past time and the "incredible lightness of being" I'm enjoying as a result feels like some kinda high!

Yes, I'm still in the process of the "big move" (into my little apartment) :-) I just extended my move time by two weeks as I've discovered I have more stuff than I ever dreamed I had ... plus I just don't want to be rushed with some unrealistic looming "deadline" hanging over my head. Prepping for this move has changed me in certain important ways. For example, I've made a pact with myself that I'll only buy something new if it's an absolute need that cannot be met any other way. Before I spend money on smething new, I'll either get it by barter or on CraigsList or at my local GoodWill (but ours here in nearby Peekskill is pretty lousy ... so don't think I'll be browsing too much there). The point is that if I can meet the need by any other means other than purchasing an item new, I will.

    My Progress With "Raw Foods"

This blog started out to document all my ups and downs as I move closer and closer to a healthier and more fit me. But it now seems to have become a sort of stream-of-consciousness thing that covers many areas of life ... including my pet projects, interests, performance artists, causes, other raw foodies' cool insights and stuff, etc.

In addition to this blog, though, I've been keeping another (under wraps, so to speak) where I document much more specific things about my progress on this raw food journey. It's a more personal and specific daily journal -- different to this blog -- where I write details around the food I'm eating, my exercise routine, and the emotional and spiritual breakthroughs I'm having. I'm tweaking that blog ... probably will revise the present format a bit ... and plan to make it public once I hit my goal weight and measurements, complete w/ before-and-after photos for dramatic effect.

We're all works in progress ... and 2008 has proved to be an amazing year of dramatic change for me ... one of the most challenging of my life and yet one of the best! Go figure. Hopefully, when the other blog goes up, it could help others see that they too can come back from the brink, and turn around years of self-sabotaging thoughts and actions. For me it's got a lot to do with living in the now. Living in the present. For life ... everyone's life ... is always happening in the now, in this very moment. Stay tuned.

I used to have a friend (he no longer is, but I still recall a lot of his wisdom) who often expressed that I needed to leave the past behind. Well everyone's journey is different ... and for me there was a GREAT deal of mourning I had to slog through and get over and past and around before I could heed his most excellent advice. But now I hear his words ringing loud and true in my heart ... and can say with joy that the painful parts of my life past are no longer worth my time to consider. They have fallen away from me like some dirty old clothes might joyfully be discarded for new ones. NOW is all that has value to me!

    Until next time.

God is Alive ... Magic is Afoot!

For some reason ... over more than several months now, the title of this old Buffy song (I used to listen to her for hours on end -- much to my father's despair!) has been popping in and out of my mind. So I thought I'd post it here today. For years I was involved in a Jesus group that gradually evolved into an evangelical type (later-turned) cult. I thought that magic was a 4-letter word back then because that was the party line teaching. I'm not so sure now. I wonder if it isn't just another word for the wonders of an ineffable God ... who I cannot ever know w/ my mind ... but only via my true self ... the one I was made to be BY that indescribable Life, that Ineffable One, so often referred to as God. (Indescribable because of Its brilliance ... brilliance to the infinite power, if you will and that It is beyond all any mind could comprehend.) Hmmmm.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the classic voice of one of my early heros, Buffy St. Marie.

While I'm in a Buffy mood -- "Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong"

And this one I just stumbled on. Since it's sort of become my theme song lately, I figured I'd throw it up here too. I don't know where this was filmed (from the waving Union Jacks it must be in Merrie Ole somewhere. Call me simple, but this song for me says it all. Think it'll be my wedding song! (Oooh, inspiration. Love it when that happens.)

    New Life

    New Life

And becoming equally as beautiful, if I do say so myself. No accident the photographer entitled this "New Life."

The next two days all I'll be doing will be packing up the remaining things in my present home that I want to either give away or throw away before I make the final move to my new apartment. (My plan is to be in my new place ... sleeping in my own bed ... by August 15th!) I haven't had my own place since I lived in my wonderful Hawaiian "tree house" and I really miss being on my own. (I'll miss my present housemates, yes, but I'll be living so close I can visit anytime I want.) I call the place I lived in Hawaii my "tree house" because it had a roof garden the size of the entire apartment and it was surrounded by a lovely bamboo tree, avocado tree, starfruit tree, mango tree and mandarin oranges and apple bananas (those tiny little ones that are sweet as pie) ... not to mention the lush flowers that grew wild all over Hawaii.

I'm looking forward to the next four days off from work (legal office work, that is) so that I can do some personal work . . . the work of decluttering my life just a little bit more. I'm really enjoying the process too; I think it's due to this phase I'm in . . . how can I make my life more SIMPLE? A big part of that is letting go of stuff. And I mean a LOT of stuff ("the less I have the better" is my new mantra). See the "The Story of Stuff" video I posted a couple days ago. Who knows, it may just inspire you to declutter too.
